Vehicle history:
This car features very peculiar separation frames for the rear side
windows. Whether this is an original feature is unknown. The car was
initially registered in Arese Italy. The owner was an electrician who
used the car for his work for about 20 years. After this active period
the first owner stored the car before selling it to a person from
California in the USA on the 29th of December 2003. From that period the
second owner ordered an extensive restoration in Germany. The
restoration took 8 years. The body work was apparently surprisingly
healthy. The front fenders were replaced by new ones and the rear wheel
arches and a small section near the rear bumper required welding
activities, for the rest it was a solid vehile. The car was stripped to
the bare metal and then repainted in the original colour Bruno Cilento.
The seats and the rest of the interior was refurbished in a Alfa
Montreal like black/orange cloth. A 3rd series Sud grille was applied
and the engine was replaced with a 1712 hydraulic valve engine from a
1994 Alfa 33. After the restoration in Germany was completed at the
beginning of 2011
the car was exported to its second owner in the USA. The Alfasud was never sold
in the USA and seeing any Alfasud in the USA is an absolute rarity. This
Giardinetta adds to that rarity in an even more extreme way.
In April 2014 the second owner put up the car for sale on the American section of the auction website E-Bay. After many bids the car was sold to its 3rd and current owner. The car remains in California in the USA. The current owner replaced the third series Alfasud grille with the appropriate Alfasud L grille as a first activity. A big amount of effort was put into bringing the car into technical top condition. Even the interior was remade by hand into as close as can be original condition. August 2018 the car has been put up for sale. Should you have an interest in this technically and optically almost perfect car you can approach the Giardinetta register and you will be put into contact with the seller.
